Auckland District Mãori Council
This was the first of the districts created in response to the Māori urban movement which was continuing when the Act was passed in 1962. It was also the only district to be created by the Act itself (see section 14(3)). It was there named as the Auckland District Māori Council but s 14(4) enables NZMC to redefine the boundaries and rename to District. Accordingly, it is now given the Māori name by which it is more usually known.
